Friday Afternoons

Friday afternoons are special in Grade One. After writing in our agendas, singing our memory work, cleaning out our desks and finishing up any work that still needs to be completed, students get to play their "Friday" games. The cupboard gets opened and out pops the lite brite, the train and the tic-tac-toe game.

But more often it's a chance to catch up on reading, especially if our honourary Grade One student is in class!


Also a clear favourite. Usually we see rows of dominoes waiting to be toppled over.


This, however, was clearly the best $4 I ever spent at a garage sale. Yep, my trusty blue box of K'nex. It's why the class cheers when we have an indoor recess and why they love Friday afternoons. The cupboard door opens and the K'nex comes out. I don't know if I've ever had such a class of builders!


If some of my students end up being architects or in construction I want some of the credit!
