So.
We talk about the wind every year in Science class and every year we head out to fly kites. I loved flying kites when I was a kid. I have distinct memories of standing on our dead end street with my kite flying high in the air and my mom coming out with a rice krispie treat for me.
Kites are fun! But not when you have 10 kites and 25 kids and only one adult. Please remind me next year to ask for help! I got smart(ish) and went to Zellers and got some real kites this year. No more Dollar Store nonsense. And for the most part I did get kites that would theoretically fly. The kids just didn't know how to fly them.
Here they are excitedly walking out with their kites and their partners.
It doesn't take long to get the first tangles.
Turns out that these kites don't fly well. At all. I won't get those again ever.
And off they set with hope and expectation!
I was not quite so hopeful.
Note all the kites on the ground.
Lo! Success!
We eventually discovered the kites that would fly easily. They eventually learned how to point the kite the right way (up. With the strings facing the person holding the kite.) And eventually they learned to not cross over each others' strings. And that tangled tails won't fly.
Next year will be even better :)
