Mr. Soles comes to town...

How the kids were thrilled this day! Mr. Soles was IN OUR SCHOOL!!
And we got to try out some songs for the evening concert!

Very highly enthusiastic singing ensued for about a half hour. More enthusiastic singing was on tap for the evening.

LOL! This cracked me up. I had no idea in September that this little fella was such a ham. I know better now!

Run! -- the evening performance. What a riot!

The concert closer: Get On Board!

The Math Olympics

During Christian Education Week we enjoyed the Math Olympics. Each day teams such as the Spheres, the Cones, and the Dodecahedrons (yes, really) gathered together to attack the day's challenge.

Monday was Measurement day. The thing was, they had to use the tallest and shortest member of each team as their measuring tool. Here's the Cones measuring their shortest team member (to drag him down the halls later)

This day was hard work!

Poor kids. They had a lot of moving to do..

...and some looked a little apprehensive about it all!

Brain wave! This was an easier way to move the little ones about!

Counting all the hooks in the hallways. This was funny to watch. Not one team ended up with the same number!

LOL. See how exhausting this was?

They seem to think they were team #1. They might have been, come to think of it.

Tuesday was problem solving day. There was lots of hemming and hawing once we got to some toothpick and penny problems at the end.

Thursday was Games Day!
This was a loud and fun day.

Friday we wrapped up with a trivia event.

Still quite sure they're team #1 :)
Let's see, what is 10 + 3 - 9 + 4 + 8 - 6?

Cheering on the team!
It all got to be a bit much by Friday afternoon :)

Games Day

This was probably their favourite game. They had to roll two dice and if they rolled a 6 they could write numbers to 100. As soon as someone else rolled a 6 they could steal the pen and start their own list to 100.

This was Subtraction Drag Racing. They could move their "cars" once they figured out the answer to their subtraction problem.

Um...hmmm. I think they got to move their pieces if they rolled an even number. And they had to get to square 96.

Each team had to come up with their own team cheer. This was the winning cheer.

So what ARE they doing during the Math Olympics?

Here's the primary group that was working in my classroom today. Yes, the "Cones" will probably be featured most this week. What can I say? Easy access! Today's activity was problem solving. I think this shows nicely how they worked this problem together!

Monday was measurement day. However, instead of using metre sticks (too easy!) they used the tallest and shortest members of their teams to measure distances in and out of the school. Guess who was the shortest member of their teams? Yeppers, my kiddies. Interesting strategy some teams took...

Don't get sick watching this one. I was standing outside enjoying the fact that there were kids everywhere working on counting and measuring volume and perimeter. While half the school was inside, the other half was busily working together on their tasks outside. It's why I love these Olympics, it's such a nice way to get the whole school together.

Catching up a little

I have blog guilt.
It's time to assuage this guilt with a few pictures. Then we shall enter spring time and put up some Math Olympics pictures.

What came up must come down.
The kids never knew how their igloo was demolished. If they knew me at all, it probably won't have been too much of a stretch for them to think that I'd jump on it.

Posing for Miss J. Wow, looking at these you can sure see how busy the tooth fairy has been in class eh?

Yes, even I will pose for Miss J. ;)

How cute! Jack's dad brought in a little lamb for us to ooh and ahh over. I don't know if its name Lilly stuck or not.

This was the calmest lamb I have ever seen in my life. It subjected itself to screams of joy, prods, pokes and shrieks of laughter.
You see, it did as all lambs do. Only on the carpet. One particularly horrified student figured our choir teacher would be equally horrified to find lamb had gone do-do on the carpet. Eh, what she doesn't know won't hurt her. :)

There's nothing quite like having a brand new puppy at home! It's a great show and tell, that's for sure. She's a cute little pup!

Marvin telling Jack all the answers. Good thing that monkey stays home eh?

It gets rather bright and sunny in the classroom in the mornings. I love it, but quite understand that the kids don't enjoy the sun shining directly into their eyes. I hate having to close the curtains and making the room a gloomy cave, so I figured maybe they'd manage with some sunglasses!
Yeah, only long enough for me to take the picture. And then *sigh* close the curtains.
Choir!
It's about the only time I can take the camera out and actually focus on the kids.
Here we are warming up.

Obeying Choir Rule #1.

I know, I know, I know!!!!
