Remembrance Day

For the past two years our whole school has gone to the cenetaph for Remembrance Day. Last year was cold and this November has been unseasonable warm, so I assumed we'd have a nice warmish gathering this year. You know what they say about assuming...
Brrr.
So on the buses we climbed.
You can see that it was a quiet and mellow trip to the cenotaph.

This year we got smart and gathered as a school on the right hand side. Last year the colour guard (or whatever you call them) marched in and stood directly in front of us. This was a better view.

There was a large crowd this year, sprinkled with many moms, dads and grandparents.

What particularly struck me about this service was how Christian it still was. We had many ministers praying or reading Scripture passages and we sang songs that proclaimed God and His grace. I was glad our school was there to help with that singing.

It always brings a lump to my throat to watch these ever aging veterans standing and remembering comrades and years gone past.

And at almost the end of a long line of wreath layers came two members of our own school.

And you know what I love about our school/church community presence at the Cenotaph? The opportunity to engage and influence the culture all around us. I'm glad for the refreshing change toward a more Christian 'service'; I trust we sang loud and strong for Him!

Sing we did!
We should do another song next year like we had done for last year's service eh?
