Grandparents Day!

Yes, Grandparents Day was a while ago, but the kids were plastered with enormous name tags in virtually every shot. The person who made those should really rethink those for next year! (We'll see if I remember eh?)
But newly purchased Photoshop, plus a couple of hours learning some new tricks and voila, name free!
It was nice to see all the grandparents come in. The kids loved it!
It was also really good for neatness in their handwriting. Maybe I need some cardboard grandparent cutouts in the back of the room. :)

Science Olympics -- The Incredible Edible Experiment

Ah check it out. This is what the kitchen looks like on Science Olympics days. Crammed with supplies for each day's activities.
So today each group needed large and small bags, measuring cups and spoons, rock salt, vanilla, sugar, cups, spoons, a bag of milk and two bags of ice.
Each large bag had to be filled halfway with ice and then add 6 tablespoons of rock salt.
In the small bag they had to mix

1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp sugar
1 cup milk

Put the small bag into the large bag and...
shake...

vigorously....
for 5-7 minutes ...
Oops, forgot to take pictures of the results! I'm sure the kids came home and told you that they made ice cream today. Tastes pretty good!

Science Olympics -- Card Tower

The first thing everyone wanted to do when they got back to school on Tuesday was put on their team headband. Every day of work since has been completed while wearing their team colours.

Tuesday's activity was building the tallest card tower. Who knew it was so difficult to build a tower of cards...when you get scissors and tape?! Each team used a different strategy and to varying results. It was fun though!

Science Olympics -- Egg Drop

Today we worked on the great egg drop. Teams had to make devices which would allow an egg to safely land without breaking after being dropped from the top of a ladder.
It requires a lot of thought!

Testing time!
Each parachute or container was hauled to the very top of a ladder and then to the countdown of the entire school began its treacherous descent.

Our audience. (don't they look cool in their team headbands?)
