Parents' Day/Dress-up Day

I was wondering why the kids looked odd when I first saw these pics again. Then I remembered that this was a Dress Up day as well as Parents' Day. The kids were dressed in their mom and dad's clothes to show how much growing they still had to do until they were an adult.

This one made me laugh. They're all huddled over a large hidden picture page, but to see them in those shirts down to their knees always makes that day a highlight for me.

Not quite dad's size yet eh?

I love dry erase boards. LOVE them! It's a perfect way to get all the kids involved rather than one or two. Here they're writing down things they can't do now, but they can do when they are adults.

Mr. Camera Shy.

And Mr. Camera Shy captured in his native environment. See the rare glimpse of this individual :)

Still last year

This would be right before the Christmas holidays, yeah just about that time that the Grade Ones are really tired and in need of a holiday. So we took some time off our curriculum and worked on some phonics games.

Ugh. I really have to stop talking in these videos.

Some birthday folks! One getting cards and the other giving us his goofy grin.

Decorating the classroom windows. I'd say it's time to turn them into spring windows...despite our wretched snowy weather.

Partying on the last day before holidays. With gingerbread cookies! Yum!

Oh and kinder surprises

Christmas program

And a video to refresh your memory. We need to listen to this one in class again, they loved this song. As you can tell by watching and listening to them sing.

Whoa.

Yes, it's true. You see new pictures here!

I have received a friendly nudge which was just the thing I needed. These pictures are from way back when we were studying patterns in math. There's nothing like actually making patterns to understand how they work. And for me to see if they really do "get it".

Working on a slightly more complex pattern. Looks like they were making an ABB pattern.

Hmmm. This is science class...Volume! It was amazing for them to discover how much the width of a container affected the volume of the container. Here they're busily pouring the contents of one size container into another that was more narrow.

:)

Ah ha. This is how old this draft post was. Christmas program! Off to our own building for practice this time.

Oh yeah, weren't they good?!
