back to the scene of the crime

It was a beautiful, sunshiny day and Lo! we received some real actual snow! Not a lot, but just enough to make the annual trip out to the wee little hill for some sledding. And I stayed the whole time this year. Yippee :)

The hills were swarming with kids, mostly ours, but a few neighbourhood kids sprinkled in. Enough to get run over several times by students who hurtled down the hill fearlessly and with total reckless abandon.

Ok, not just the kids were fearless :)

And yes, even though we had just a wee bit of snow, we did have enough for a few jumps. Jumps that the kids were lined up for.

Jumps that I somehow avoided this time...

But after some fear and trembling and more horror at the kid bowling at the bottom of the hills (wow can they go flying!) eventually I felt comfortable sledding again. In fact, I was ready to toboggan some more when the time came for us to head back to school.

Racing Daniel down the hill. He went over the jump. His chicken teacher did not.

Parents' Day

Miss J stalking the parents with her camera again :) Funny how the kids are more willing to pose for me than their parents are.

I have a picture of Luke's dad being tackled by the class a few years ago. Always in the middle of a scrum!

This would be my own preference: hiding from the camera :)

One year ago...

Just about this very moment exactly one year ago today:

It really is a wonderful thing to be able to walk.

Iglu work

The iglu has been up and occupied for a while now, but it couldn't have been completed without the help of the grade 7 and 8 girls who made the boxes look more like blocks of snow. Thanks girls!

(and you're welcome for a week of staying inside during long cold lunch hour recesses :) )

Here the class is oh so intently watching a real iglu being constructed. It's pretty cool!

Wanna watch it?

Version 1 of the iglu.

I tried to make do with using a few less blocks so I could save some for the (not yet completed) tunnel into the iglu. Not a good idea as it turned out. This less than stellar version didn't last until the next morning. Mind you, our school cleaners keep bumping into it which isn't great for a taped together building.

Patterns in math

Here's Grade One making patterns.

No simple AB patterns for this table. I think they ended up making an ABCDEFGH pattern.

And my newest game for the classroom. It's kind of like Rush Hour in that you need to move pieces around to discover the solution to the game. That game was very popular this year so I bought the Lonpos Pyramid. It's been played with intently ever since.
