On the first day of school I taped a foot on the blackboard saying that this was the first day of school. We would be counting every day that we came to school and put up a foot for each day. Later on that week (the next day?) we started counting down how many more school days until the 100th day of school. With about 40 school days to go, we started putting an arrow underneath feet indicating how many days we had left. This was the second most exciting day of the year -- the last school day before 100 day!
Also mentioned almost immediately was that they had to dress up like they were 100 years old. Check out all the canes we came up with! (good thing canes aren't a normal accessory in Grade One, they prefer to use them as swords)
Another key element of our day is inviting 100 (or more) guests into the classroom. The whole school came in for a half hour visit and to help out with some activity. Grade 6 helped us out counting the 100 items we brought to school.

Grade 5 came in and helped us with our 100 Day boooklets. You should see all the things we can apparently buy with $100! They also helped us come up with things we would like 100 of (candy a popular choice) and what we wouldn't want 100 of (apparently 100 siblings would be a little too many)

Grade 3 helped us with one of our favourite activities -- necklaces with 100 fruit loops. It was sticky, but the best part seemed to be polishing off all the leftovers before they were finally permitted to eat their necklaces. (I had to get a photo of more than just string around their necks!)

In came Grade 4 to make our room look more festive. They helped us make chains that were 73, no wait, 100 links long.

Ahhhh. A very brief moment of peace and quiet.

Thanks Miss J for the lovely pictorial of the now world-renown 100 Day at CCS!
Little wonder your kiddies did not recognize your appearance "fast forwarded" some 50 years --- that would have been alarming n'est ce pas? The way style & fashion cycle in and out, you just might want to hang on to those gems from Mom's closet tho'!...
Thanks for the blog update at long last! Delphinium Twink!e G
This is hilarious!! I love the first picture where you showed the class all dressed up. I totally thought you were someones Oma in the back there until I saw you further down the page. Nice disguise! Looks like you had quite the day. Thanks for sharing all the pictures!
