Sorry! This post is really not dialup friendly! But I figured that since you waited so long for pictures of this day, you may as well see lots of pictures of this day.
This is a new one for me and I should have figured Jonah would be the one to do it. I've had plenty of girls dress up like an old Opa, but I'd never had it go the other way! I think he wins costume of the day :)
This was really a very unusual day for me. I'd done 100 Day many times, but never quite like this. I really couldn't have done this without the help of all the other teachers at school and the parents who came in this day. Almost all the pictures have been taken by them. Thank you!
The day started with Grade 5 and 6 coming in and counting the 100 items that the students brought in. And it never fails to warm the heart to see siblings searching each other out and helping them. It's always so much fun to see how the older students help out the kids in my class. Of course, by this time all the students in school have been on the other side of it and have done 100 Day with me as well. ...wow... that's amazing to realize!
They had to go through the classroom and find out what everyone had brought for 100 Day.
While their teacher hung out in a corner.
Love the pipe. Bet mom didn't know he was going to actually keep it in his mouth though eh? :)
Yep, I forgot to bring 100 things, so I cheated. The kids had to figure out how to put their 100 items in groups, so 5 groups of 20 was it for me.
See? Here they are counting and rearranging their 100 items into groups. Looks like two 50s to me.
:) I love these group shots. It shows how happily busy the room is on these days.
Grade Three was next up. They were totally outnumbered by my students, but it may have been most interesting for the 3s to come in -- it was their first year as "big kid" helpers.
And the Grade Three class got to do the favourite activity of 100 Day, making fruit loop necklaces. Of course, most kids took advantage of the fact that it was 110 Day and made their necklaces 10 fruit loops longer.
And then in came Grade Four. They were in charge of helping to make collages of 100 happy faces. Hmm, they could have copied photos off the blog and they would have found 100 happy faces rather easily!Note a theme here? Goofy grins, no doubt fueled by the additional sugars that they're all consuming. (There was no way all the fruit loops on the table were put straight onto their necklaces. More like one for the string, one for me...)
Still laughing at the costume :)
Leader of the pack!
Grade 7 and 8 wrapped up our busy morning by helping us to put 110 handprints on our 100 Day banner.
Yet again I am helped by a fellow teacher explaining what we're going to be doing. I don't have much presence or authority from my wheelchair. It's harder for people to listen to me when I'm looking up at them or they can't see where I am.
Doesn't the sign look awfully cool? Not only did the 7/8 class help me with putting the handprints up, they also stayed in during a recess to make the sign. I thank them very much!
Here they're all working on some page or other of our 100 Day booklet.
I laughed at this sight. These little ol' ladies were headed off to the little ol' ladies room all hunched over on their canes.
And then since my birthday party was spent mostly at the hospital for me, we wrapped up this day with a wee party with cupcakes and chips and a movie. Besides, I wasn't really up to 100 Day-ing all day.
The kids didn't seem to mind at all.
And so ended the day. Hopefully next year will be a little more normal!

Great post, Miss J! Sorry you had to enjoy the day in a wheelchair instead of getting truly involved. Love all the pics that were captured by everyone:) Hope your cast-free sleeping was great this weekend!!

Looked like a fun day! Great pictures!
Can't believe I denied myself the luxury of going through that lovely, long post these past few weeks. But I am back on this laptop of mine with a shade more renewed energy and interest.
Thanks for affording us all a close-up view and visit to those special occasions.
Like televised live sports...it's almost more enjoyable by satellite! LOL.
