We've been counting down to this day since the first day of school. Yes, really.
It was so cool to see all the "old folks" come into the school and we looked forward to sharing our day with our schoolmates and families.
All the pictures are located on the Photobucket post which is immediately below this one, but this is a briefer look at what we did on this day. Yes, this is brief :)
Our room was cram-jammed enough without adding half the school in there, so we moved down the hallway to the choir room. Oh, how happy I was for this extra room!
Ooodles of space!!
Our first visitors came from Grade 7. They helped us to see what everyone brought. They also helped us count our collection of 100 things and to see how many groups of 2, 5, 10, 25 and 50 make 100.
Next into the fray came Grade 8. Oh we could not have done this activity without their help! This is the first time I had 100 Day with a grade who had done it already. What to do to make it a little new for them too? Making 100 Day shirts was one such activity. I was a little apprehensive about this one, but everything worked out well.
And I think it's just great to see the kids wearing them at school!
Also a first was going to the gym on 100 Day. We were certainly a novelty to the teachers at Calvin and to the bus driver (who had to listen to the kids singing the 100 Day song endlessly).
It is a little different to see us tromp into the schools white haired and stooped over.
No running was allowed of course. We didn't want to break any bones ;)

We did see if we could stand on one foot for 100 seconds (some of us could)

To see them dribble a basketball dressed this way...priceless!

In the afternoon we welcomed Grade 5/6 and then Grade 3/4. Which meant we had half the school in one room. Did I mention how thankful I was to have the choir room as an extra room this year?!

Grade 5/6 helped us to make towers out of 100 toothpicks and 100 marshmellows. At least we started with 100 marshmellows. I think some groups ended with far fewer than 100... :)
Grade 3/4 helped us with what's always been a favourite activity, making necklaces out of 100 fruitloops. While they're never allowed to immediately eat their necklaces (miss j needs a picture of the class first!) they do like polishing off the leftovers.
